good things come to those who believe

This seems like an appropriate title for a New Year’s Eve post. After all, this is when we look forward with eager anticipation like a painter laying eyes on a blank canvas and imagine, hope, plan and dream about a better year, a new year. It’s the time we shake off the last year like an old coat of dust and put the good and bad behind us. It’s the time we reaffirm, re-establish, refocus. Maybe we do this in the form of New Year’s resolutions. Or maybe we make a mental affirmation to ourselves that this next year, 2010, is going to be an awesome year. A year filled with achievements, laughter, hope…goodness. And, of course, this takes a healthy dose of faith. Or belief. Or whatever you want to call it.

But whatever you call it - I’m there. And I hope you are too. :)

And, being completely honest - I’m a thief. Because I stole this title and somewhat modified it from a picture taken at the Kings vs Cavaliers game last week. But it fit - both for the day and the momentum. I mentioned in a previous post I was on court to shoot this game and although we didn’t win, it was an AWESOME game and I thought our team was stellar. Here’s a few fun shots from the night…

okay, this is one thing I didn’t understand and maybe someone can help me out - Shaq seems like a cool guy. I’ve never heard dirt on him - maybe that’s ignorant bliss but I’m pretty stoked when someone with so much talent and recognition seems to be a cool person as well which I always thought he was. So, he was booed all night long by the crowd. I didn’t understand this. I had to ask my brothers what the deal was - they’re Floridians but being guys, they seem to know this sports stuff regardless and they said they thought it was due to the fact that he left LA because he didn’t want to play with Kobe . Okay, so what am I missing here? Sweet! He left our rival team to go play for another team! That’s the way I see it anyway…???

Anyway, he was fun to watch…

speaking of fun to watch - Evans is unbelievable. I love his court style…I’ve nicknamed him the “smooth operator:) because he has so much style on court regardless of what’s going on - be it overtime with a tense crowd or casual warmup, he has this stroll that can kick into overdrive in 0. 5 seconds. it’s awesome.

case in point…smooth operator in action below

and love lebron’s expression in this one

and in this one too. I sort of get this silly satisfaction in seeing us ruffle the feathers of the king of the court.

we have a gorgeous dance team - yo?!

for me half the fun shooting these games is capturing the expressions of the players after calls - like this one - love Spenc’s versus cleveland 18s…

and one last one before we went into overtime…notice the tron picture of a poster a fan was holding up :) Happy New Year’s everyone! Have a great, safe, amazing night!! talk at ya in 2010!

Happy Holidays

Last night I was on court at the Kings vs. Cavaliers game and I was soooo thrilled to be there. I will say, the last time I was on court was for the Monarchs end of season game so there was a bit of sadness. I’m really going to miss them. Like, a LOT. A LOT, a LOT.

In any case, I was so excited to see so many supportive fans and a full house. As it should be! We played strong. We didn’t win, but as always, I was proud to be a fan. Happy to be there. Enthralled watching them play. We have a pretty amazing team. And I just love being on court. Love seeing all the action, love seeing fan support, love all the commotion and constant chaotic noise. It’s like a night out on the town for me. In fact, if I had a night to go out and could go anywhere - it’d be the place I’d want to be. So, it was - essentially - like an early Christmas gift. An extra bonus - my friend Kris was on court beside me! Nothing like sitting side by side with a photo buddy meeting more fun photo buddies, talking f-stops and ISOs and sharing the excitement of images as we capture them. Pure bliss.

So, I’m signing off for the holiday. My little ones are just up from nap, still in pjs (this the first down day we’ve had in longer than I can remember), I’m in sweats, we’re getting ready to hit the floor and play games and who knows what else. Good times. :) I hope everyone else is in the middle of good times too, enjoying friends and family and beautiful, meaningful filled moments. Happy Holidays!

And a fun pics from last night - me and Kris when we got there and our seats right next to the Cavaliers. That’s always interesting. :) will have game pics up shortly but until then…

not sure what’s up with my smile but Kris looks cute!! :)

on court during warmup…I love this place! :)

holiday fun and misc…

Okay, warning: there is going to be some seriously amazing photographs posted here. Like, works of art. I know, you’re jealous. You’re going to look at these pictures and say, “man, I wish I could take pictures of my kids like that!” Sarcasm as it’s finest. That’s what this is. :)

So, my little Canon Powershot travels with me always. I love it. It’s like going from 60 pound hand weights to 5 pound hand weights. There’s always a little joy in whipping that puppy out and happily snapping pictures -I love how easy it is to tote and how handy it is. Anyway, so last week my twins had their school program. I have to admit - I’ve never bought Christmas outfits for my kids - like just purely Christmas outfits. It’s the practical side of me that thinks, as I’m lifting it off the rack, they’ll only wear this once. But this year, after seeing SO MANY CUTE outfits waltz through my studio there was no way I wasn’t buying them outfits. It had to happen. Regardless of practicality. And I will also admit, I will probably do this every year now because it was so much fun to see my babies all dressed up singing Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer offkey, missing lines and with such obvious delight and enthusiasm. Even better, it was pure joy on my part to watch them parade around the house loving themselves to death in their new outfits.

Here are a few (bad) pictures from their program (my oldest, who used to preschool at the place my twins now do, was invited to join in and sure enough, she sat up there singing too. isn’t it awesome to be a kid and have no inhibition whatsoever? I adore this about kids - it’s such a great reminder.)

don’t ya love the red eye? it seemsI left that setting off…oops.

the happiness

The sugar high was just kicking in for Hannah (note chocolate all over face) while Gabby was already on the downslide…

Yesterday, my aunt, cousin, mom and I headed to Nevada City for Victorian Christmas. If you’ve never done this you must put it on your to-do list for next year! Having grown up in Nevada City, I’m probably a bit biased but it’s the best Christmas event around. Homemade goodies, caroling, hot apple cidar….all the makings for getting in the holiday spirit. Here’s a snapshot of us with our fancy umbrellas that got us so much attention! Thank you Kristina of Linde Lane Tea for these (which are actually props in my studio where we met to drive up together - rain kicked in right before we took off, much to our surprise, so we grabbed these - had no idea they’d make us the Bells of the Ball - of however that goes - we had SO many people stop to ask us about these!)

and as promised in a previous post - some behind-the-scenes (or takeouts) from my Christmas shoot with my kids. Hannah was having SO much fun - can’t you just see the joy on her face? LOL

imagination at work - regardless of what I was asking them to do, this is what they wanted to do…pretend like the couch was a rollercoaster. and who knows what happened to Isaiah here…he was probably off digging into the candy jar full of chocolate kisses…

and one more final picture of me just loving my kids in all their uniqueness. gabby, my little fashion star, in her own little getup outside dancing and singing on the stool from the bathroom. i swear moments like this make up for all the other less-than-fun ones…

the method

{UPDATE: yo mama! We’ve got upload! pictures are up to accompany post…}

There are a lot of really nice things about growing older. I know, you gasp, but it’s true and the older I get, the more I believe it and embrace it. Here’s one such thing - knowing yourself more and more. It’s a funny thing about life that you aren’t born knowing yourself. In fact, I don’t think you know yourself even a little for a very, very, very long time. At thirty-five, I’m finally getting to know myself. For example - I recognize that I have an unspoken but very distinct method by which I approach things that seem daunting or time consuming to me: I sit on them. For some time even. It could be a new photo tool - one I’ve been drooling to buy, chomping at the bit to hold and then I get it - it’s in my hands. I look at it with big, glazed eyes. I have that dumb-founded, shining look of joy on my face - I can tell because it radiates off the walls around me and has other people muttering under their breath and shaking their heads when they try to talk to me and get no response and finally leave the room because - obviously, I’m busy. I examine it, turn it over, run my hands lovingly over it…and then (if it’s anything that requires reading, new learning, installing, or any time consuming task whatsoever) I promptly wrap it back up and with infinite care and gentle love set it to the side of my desk. Where I will adore it often. Look at it often. And ignore it often.

Until I’m ready.

And I don’t know when ready will be. It just hits me. It’s like a book someone gives you and gushes over and over and over about how good it is. And you put it on your bedstand. And it gathers dust. And then one day, you pick it up and man, they were right - that book is good! And you finish that sucker, cover to cover, in one day!

This I know about myself. It can be really frustrating when it’s something I want to get done. Something I need to get done. Case in point - getting internet to my studio. I know, it’s silly but this task has seemed both time consuming and daunting to me. So, yesterday (thinking I had found a simpler short cut) I went to Sprint and bought a wireless card for which I was super stoked with myself and feeling incredibly handy and dandy…until I actually used it and, no offense sprint (it must be my coverage area), it’s reptile-in-the-cold slow. Like slowwwwwwwwww. Like I ate lunch, brushed my teeth, edited a session and painted my nails and the page was still loading. Okay, maybe not quite that slow, but seriously, for a girl with my patience - it was obvious this wasn’t a match made in heaven. Which is such a bummer. I love matches made in heaven.

Anyway, so this morning, full of brisk, I came to the studio, I called Surewest. I set up an appointment. I will have internet in two weeks. And not stopping there, I grabbed another task I’ve been wanting - dying - to do which is find someone to wall paper some of the studio walls. Called Sherwin Williams, got a contact, we’ve already spoken and guess what…I think that may actually happen too. Why it took me so long to do those two things is beyond me. That’s a mystery about myself I’m still working out. I’ve got my number on it, but not the reason. Good thing I have plenty of years ahead to work it out… :)

Okay, one last fun christmas mini session to share! I loved the minis this year! Will definitey be doing that again next year….

okay well…as it is, I’m still using that funky card (going to return it today) and go figure - I can’t upload the pictures. I don’t like pictureless posts but it looks like this is going to have to be one at least for now… :(

hope everyone is having a great Friday!

Family Session

How can you be so organized in certain parts of your life and so unorganized in others? That’s how I feel these days and it was confirmed this morning when I went to wrap presents for my kid’s teachers and found that there was no scotch tape in the house. Not ONE roll. Not ONE strip. I bought paper. I bought tissue. We bought the presents. I have the cards. I made sweets to accompany (which so need to LEAVE my house!!!). But no tape to actually WRAP THEM! Good-ness. Anyone have some tape they want to toss my way? :)

So…I was so looking forward to this session (okay, truth be told, I look forward to every session. that’s the beautiful thing about my job - I love it endlessly) but little man Oliver and I had met at our Halloween Picture Day and Donation Drive and he is, quite obviously, beyond adorable and a total cheese in front of the camera (took a little coaxing the first time but this time we jumped right in!). Plus, I know mom through the Sacramento Kings and was excited to meet the rest of her family (hubby and family love lug Boris who gave us some great expressions and was pretty sweet about chillin’….except he did a lot of cute chilling off camera for which I have not yet forgiven him - will include snapshot below). Check out the beautiful family…

love, love, love this one…get dad!

jump for your love! :)

do not know which of these I love more so…

some serious ‘tude here but ohhhh so cute…

oh Boris, I’ll never forgive you!

It’s Christmas countdown!!! One week and one day!
