In the Day

Warning: this is a totally for fun, random without purpose posting…just taking you down memory lane with me…

So, last month I finally caved and purchased a scanner…and then kicked myself that I didn’t do it sooner when I found out how little of an investment they are. Infact, the day I purchased it, I had taken some old photos to be scanned and fifty dollars later after picking them up, realized I had just spent half of what the scanner cost. Which I saw on my way out. After paying for my scanned pictures. No brainer there. Buy the scanner. It’s not fancy, but it’s functional and it’s Canon and well, I love Canon (Nikoners - no comment!). We -Canon and I- like, go way back.

So, the scanner has been fun. I’ve been digging through some old images and scanning them in and in doing so, stumbled on many memories…such as my very early complete obsession with fashion photography…which was in fact what first had me looking at schools in New York because I was, after all, going to be a fashion photographer. Duh.

Not sure what other girls did on their weekends, but this is what my friends and I did…dream…

and while I didn’t end up becoming a fashion photographer in New York obviously (you mean, you can’t just like walk up to Vogue and say you want to take pictures for them? but, why not?) it was fun and this is part of the portfolio that got me into The School of Visual Arts for my stint there which was a total eye opener and crazy/fun/educational experience…these are scanned slides so bad bad quality…oh yeah, my maiden is Matthews… :)

and one of my first best models ever - my sis. she was such a player - so up for anything - which was nice, because my brothers were so not up for anything (buggers)…can’t believe my sister will be graduating from college this year…(sigh)…where has the time gone?

and my second best model ever, my friend Darc who, someone else hitting a milestone moment, will be getting married in October and guess who gets to photograph it…me, me, me! :) this was scanned from a film print…i do miss the grit of film…

okay, back to work! hope y’all r having a great week! I think I’ve been texting to much lately…I’m finding myelf slipping into text “talk” when I write… :) Going to facebook to upload this and tag my friend Darc! gotta love Facebook…

Newborn Session: Baby “B”

What’s to be said of this session…? It would hard to find words to outdo the cuteness of this family and the newest member to their clan. Mom is a friend - just so happens we both have rambunctious, adorable twins. We first bonded over talk of the beauty and insanity but then discovered a true friendship that started with treadmill chat. Boys bond over beer and sports. Girls bond over treadmills and talk of sleep routines and little people who shouldn’t know how to talk back at age three but somehow have found the words…I swear, she has been my sanity more than a time or two.

So, it’s obvious to state, but I was pretty excited for this session. It was my first time meeting Brennan and since we had done maternity pictures together, it felt like a complete turn of the wheel. Here was the little man who sat in mom’s belly while she helped me unload a couch from my car at eight months pregnant because I was determined to get photos of her in this field with the light just so…on a new couch whose weight I had not yet tested and naively thought I could lift myself.

Yes, she’s kick butt. She worked out until the end and I can imagine she jogged her way into the delivery room. Pulse? Got it! :) Okay, maybe not that kick butt… (I’m poking fun only because I saw her just last week jogging at the gym and was like - seriously? I wish we’d known each other in my first pregancy because I think she would have inspired me to get back on it right after and I wouldn’t still be  working (inching) my way back to fit some four years later…so, really this is me being jealous and inspired :))

In any case, here is the little man and the adorable family.

to all moms…don’t you just LOVE those first few weeks when they’ll sleep through anything?

my absolute favorite…look at those little curled fists…

have a thing for toes and little hands…yummy, yummy!

dad had to leave and I was a little bummed…he would have made the last perfect ingredient to this image but nevertheless, still lovin it…

this and that

Excuse any following typos that may occur. I’m writing from Alaska. Well, not really but you’d think so based on the temperature in Starbucks this morning. Just my second (to home) favorite place in the world. But seriously, polar bears would be shivering. And we know how unlikely that is. But truly. C.O.L.D.

Random something I just loved this week….while working out and watching soccer - the announcer said…”nothing is absolute…that’s what I love about it” and I thought - what a cool statement for life in general. Anytime I get scared about the unknown, I’m going to take this statement and embrace it and be excited for whatever greets me.

And loosely linking that to this next paragraph…speaking of greetings…I’ve been entrenched in cards and rehauling our product line and thought I’d share some of the newest templates to hit the list. These are just a small sample of all the cool designs (shown here are the 5×7 folded greeting cards, front and back). And with that said, I’m going to have to sign off because dude. C.O.L.D. I need to go outside to defrost.

Wishing everyone a spectac weekend!

Family Session

It’s gotta be hard to be such a beautiful and sweet family. I mean, truly, to be so handsome you look like you belong on a poster for the American Family; to emit so much love and sweetness that people are bound to adore you wherever you go…wow, just hard man. Hard.

Hehe. I love this family! I exaggerate not when I say it’s impossible to avoid being swept up into the life and energy and love that is them - and who would want to anyway?! I always leave their sessions feeling light and happy and dying to get my hands on the images because I know I’ll be smiling the whole time I edit.

So, there are a lot of images I’m not showing. I always try to mix in grouped or more classical/posed shots with the carefree/lifestyle images but I’m opting just to show some of the ones that really seem to capture the essence of them to me - the playful ones, the informal ones, the silly ones.

I was so excited when Eileen (mom) told me her parents were coming - I’ve photographed them several times now and always enjoy their company!

I absolutely adore the way he’s looking at his sister here!

Our session was all about the peace sign and I have to tell you, I seriously dug it!

this one makes me laugh…I think this was a test shot and I love how natural and full of character it is…

it was late by this time and I had to bump my ISO up to 1250 which always makes me cringe a little but these were fun (well, maybe not for Des who I had stand in the back with a flash and found out after she was doing the party dance to avoid a little nest of pincher bugs…sorry Des :()

The American Poster Family :) - Thank you, thank you, thank you -I had so much fun photographing you guys!!!!!!!!:)

Baby Girl Art Album

I’ve had mommy guilt riding on my shoulders for some time now. My shoulders especially felt heavy when my twins third birthday rolled around in June and I still - still - hadn’t put together a baby book for Hannah. Truly, this was pathetic. My poor Hannah - I had visions of her someday lamenting how I loved her brother and sister more or worse yet, that Gabby and Isaiah would gloat over how they were mom’s favorite because, after all, we have baby books…

So, I’m happy to say that although I will forever being carrying some kind of mommy guilt (was there ever a mom who didn’t have it?) I can at least write off this guilt. And with it, announce yet another cool pre-designed template to be added to our collection of the Everyday Art Albums we now offer…and that I’m seriously, madly, lustingly in love with. This, like the senior album posted a few weeks ago, has those luxurious thick pearl uv pages in a layflat design… (and yes, that’s my big belly when I was preggo with the twins! that was the best it got - not fun trying to take your own maternity pictures when you’re 8 months pregnant with twins!)

if there was one picture I had to pick to best describe Hannah, this would be it…she is my chill child, my (secretly) “good baby” :)
