Add urban grunge and a gorgeous lady with rocking style and I’m like Micheal Jackson in the groove moon-walking back across the stage.

I’ve known Tanja, and photographed her family, for a few years now. I knew she was one of those dream-cool clients when it rained on our first session and she and her family decided to go ahead with the session anyway. We met at the park with umbrellas in hand and had an absolute blast. We all walked away from the session saying it was all the more fun and unique because of the rain - which only worked, of course, because her family was so much fun and willing to go with the flow and play.

So, when she called for an individual session for both personal and profession reasons - and she was down with going urban - I knew it was going to be fun and it was so. much. fun! She completely got in touch with her inner supermodel and worked the poses like a pro!

Get ready for picture overload…soooo can’t narrow these down - loving them all!

For inquiring minds - this was a Fashion Session which is 2 hours for $450 with 20-30 hand-edited and airbrushed images on CD (typically these sessions come with 3-4 backdrop/outfit changes but because we did a thorough pre-consult where she brought all her clothes and accessories we knew exactly what the game plan was and moved quickly allowing time for more outfits). Right. So, I wrote myself a whole little blog post around this song with the lyrics come play with me by Norah Jones because that’s the kind of genius I am. Then I looked up the song to add it to the playlist (below) and whatyaknow…what’s the opposite of genius? Wait! Don’t answer that! Not unless you have a Mango Smirnoff in your hand and a goodwill smile on your face. Or you could humor me and say you’ve done the exact same thing and you too went around your house singing come play with me by Norah Jones loud enough for your neighbors to hear (that didn’t really happen. no honest. really. that wasn’t me).

So, revised blog post…come away with me could work too being that this was an engagement shoot for their wedding which will be happening Santa Cruz in a few weeks (the last time I was there was to visit my college boyfriend back in…oh well, who really needs to name years, huh? awhile ago. needless to say, I’m pretty excited to be there again but even more excited to photograph their wedding which sounds absolutely, perfectly, totally divine, unique and beautiful).

Come away with me, come play with me…however you want to think of it - either works. As it was, we had a scant 20 minutes or so to do this session but they play so well and so cute together it was easy peasy.

The one very specific request to this session was that we go low-key, no big setups, no big scenes and that the final images look natural. I was down with it.

We met up on Sunday morning (low-key, no audiences) and spent a few hours hitting some different locations, using all natural light (save for the studio ones). One last note that I always find fun to prove wrong - people who come to me saying they don’t photograph well which “D” was 100% certain was the case (he even had some photos to show me to prove his point). I so beg to differ. I’ve nicknamed him Matt Lauer (and now brag that I’ve photographed a celebrity :)) because of his very natural, relaxed presence in front of the camera and open, inviting smile.  And because…well, he totally rocks the Matt Lauer look in several of these!

ps - talk about going the distance! this was 10am on Sunday morning and, although not shown here, I asked him to jump in the pool for a few and he did. ahhhh, how’s that for cooperation and enthusiasm! I dig it. :)

I’ve had so many sessions lately where there’s been a very specific reason for the shoot (aside from updating photos or adding to the family album which are both great reasons but more typical).

So, I book a maternity session with Ms. E and I find out at our consultation prior to her session that her husband loves her pregnant….which I find completely adorable. The session is actually a gift to him - to appreciate him, to say thank you and to give him a very solid, tangible memory of her pregnant (this is baby #2 so this may be the last pregnancy). Knowing this added a lot of flavor to our session - we mixed it up with some fashion shots and some sweet, sexy shots that will be for his eyes only. And it was beautiful - she is beautiful - and the idea for the session I found to be extremely beautiful.

Pregnancy is sexy! I wish someone had told me that when I was pregnant! :)
