Pac-10 Conference

Headshots were never so much fun. Last week I headed down to Walnut Creek to meet up with Heather Vaughan in her new digs and meet some of the fun people she works with. Heather and I previously worked together at the Sacramento Kings and on one shoot a few years ago we ended the day by grabbing some of the crew involved in the shoot and throwing them in front of the camera for some fun, wacky shots (Heather included who knows how to bring the attitude!). It was so much fun that we did it again on the next shoot and somewhere along the line it became standard procedure. And I must confess, it’s like knowing I’m getting cake  (make that a carrot cake) after dinner - it’s one of my favorite parts of the shoot. So, I was stoked to find that the Pac10 crew, even though we just met, were up for fun and wacky. And for the record- they have some serious game! Even though we were in a small space, they brought the gear, the fun and enough attitude to make the Saturday Night Live crew take a step back. So I say, anyway. :)

Have a great weekend!

Some headshots just to prove to you that I actually did my job while I was there. :)

Let the games begin!

We’re bad, we’re bad, we know it, we’re bad…ugh huh! :)

Happenings

Wow, is it Thursday already?! This week is flying!!! Okay, if ya missed it - tomorrow night, The Park in downtown Sac, 10:30 pm Krush Boutique Fashion Show featuring several Sacramento Kings dancers and awesome hair and makeup by Sarah Sherman (hair), Amber del Valle (hair) and Teshara Holmes (makeup) and Christi Reynolds of Makeup Artistry. And moi! Backstage, photographing and doing what I do best - walking around with my camera in my hand! LOL :)

Okay, onto other fun stuff. Just blogged about my photo session with the cast and crew of Jack of Hearts on The Pixel Chicks blog. Fun post for other photogs or photo hungry peeps or anyone interested in the story behind the shoot.  Check it out HERE.

And not to be redundant, I won’t post the story again here but will do the pictures as they show up much smaller on blogger.

some fun behind-the-scenes…

and this is what happens when you don’t cooperate - I slap ya around! just kidding - although it appears that way, I was fixing Trina’s hair. :)

thanks Ely for the BTS pics! :)

Jack of Hearts

This is super quick post - tons of editing from some super fun shoots last week and some upcoming…

Wanted to share this - will be sharing the full post later with photos from the shoot but this last Saturday I had the privilege of shooting the media shots/poster, etc., for a tv pilot, Jack of Hearts. The cast and crew were amazing! I’ve worked with the director’s wife Kate before as she was interning with the Kings for the last year (and just landed a job working her dream downtown - big congratulations - so deserved!) and her husband - though we just met - is, like her, a complete blast to work with. Fun to see two dynamic creative personalities at work together - and fun to be a part of a project with them!

HERE is a behind the scenes video from our shoot - I met the guy behind the lens (Ian Webb) and it was fun to see him at work and then see this. Very cool! (I knew I should have done my hair that day! LOL)

And THIS video from their first day of filming - director Ely commenting on how the first day went.

Fun stuff!

Power of a Beautiful Smile

I think I kind of took this for granted growing up because, you see, I was raised with a stepfather who was a dentist. I got all the dental treatment - the fluoride, the cleanings, the checkups. We were up on our teeth like I’m up on coffee in the morning - in other words, we never missed it…brushing and all of that. And sadly, I’m pretty sure as a kid I threw some attitude around about it too. It annoyed me. The fluoride tasted bad. The teeth cleanings were uncomfortable. Blah, blah, blah. I’m thinking even if the fluoride tasted good back then (which it didn’t - truly, things have come a long way - bubblegum? strawberry? chocolate? sweet! when’s my next appointment?! never mind my kids, I’ll be here! :)) I probably would have found a reason to be put off by it. It’s just a kid thing. I think. Man, do I have trouble coming my way! I think it’s called payback and remembering how I acted about all of this, I’m pretty sure it’s headed my way soon!

Little did I know how I’d appreciate it someday - having healthy strong teeth, no cavities and good habits to pass on to my kids. When I photographed Dr. Curtis’ office I couldn’t help noticing the amazing smiles. Beautiful, amazing smiles. It just makes ya want to go to the dentist a little more often because truly, there is power in a beautiful smile. And these ladies have it.

Find out more about Dr. Curtis by visiting her website here. She has a gorgeous office in Lincoln. I’ll be working with Dr. Curtis to photograph some of the amazing makeovers she’s done so be prepared to see more stunning smiles soon. :) I really overkill the smilie faces, huh? I can’t seem to help myself…speaking of smiles and all….

and the Doctor herself. :)

and just to show you doctors know how to have fun too - love this office! seriously fun group!

Amy brought these cool glasses (beautiful mama to the left who’s daughter’s Ms. Emily and Gracie have visited the studio on a few occasions) and I almost tackled her on the way out for them! Ends up her sister - who lives in London - picked them up there and brought them on a visit….so, since I got the hookup :) I’m hoping to be stocking these in the studio soon because they are TOO fun!!! They have Diva written all over them!!

good things come to those who believe

This seems like an appropriate title for a New Year’s Eve post. After all, this is when we look forward with eager anticipation like a painter laying eyes on a blank canvas and imagine, hope, plan and dream about a better year, a new year. It’s the time we shake off the last year like an old coat of dust and put the good and bad behind us. It’s the time we reaffirm, re-establish, refocus. Maybe we do this in the form of New Year’s resolutions. Or maybe we make a mental affirmation to ourselves that this next year, 2010, is going to be an awesome year. A year filled with achievements, laughter, hope…goodness. And, of course, this takes a healthy dose of faith. Or belief. Or whatever you want to call it.

But whatever you call it - I’m there. And I hope you are too. :)

And, being completely honest - I’m a thief. Because I stole this title and somewhat modified it from a picture taken at the Kings vs Cavaliers game last week. But it fit - both for the day and the momentum. I mentioned in a previous post I was on court to shoot this game and although we didn’t win, it was an AWESOME game and I thought our team was stellar. Here’s a few fun shots from the night…

okay, this is one thing I didn’t understand and maybe someone can help me out - Shaq seems like a cool guy. I’ve never heard dirt on him - maybe that’s ignorant bliss but I’m pretty stoked when someone with so much talent and recognition seems to be a cool person as well which I always thought he was. So, he was booed all night long by the crowd. I didn’t understand this. I had to ask my brothers what the deal was - they’re Floridians but being guys, they seem to know this sports stuff regardless and they said they thought it was due to the fact that he left LA because he didn’t want to play with Kobe . Okay, so what am I missing here? Sweet! He left our rival team to go play for another team! That’s the way I see it anyway…???

Anyway, he was fun to watch…

speaking of fun to watch - Evans is unbelievable. I love his court style…I’ve nicknamed him the “smooth operator:) because he has so much style on court regardless of what’s going on - be it overtime with a tense crowd or casual warmup, he has this stroll that can kick into overdrive in 0. 5 seconds. it’s awesome.

case in point…smooth operator in action below

and love lebron’s expression in this one

and in this one too. I sort of get this silly satisfaction in seeing us ruffle the feathers of the king of the court.

we have a gorgeous dance team - yo?!

for me half the fun shooting these games is capturing the expressions of the players after calls - like this one - love Spenc’s versus cleveland 18s…

and one last one before we went into overtime…notice the tron picture of a poster a fan was holding up :) Happy New Year’s everyone! Have a great, safe, amazing night!! talk at ya in 2010!
