Just for Moms

Moms, be prepared to laugh hysterically. If you haven’t seen these yet, you’re in for a treat. Being that Mother’s Day is just around the corner, I thought this would be a perfect time to share. And it’s a great gift idea for moms especially new moms who can use a good laugh - and we all remember those first weeks, right? Sleep deprivation, spit up, etc., etc., - yeah, laughs are a good thing….

Okay, and before anyone gets offended, make sure to check out the whole post - I’m including a few pages to give you an idea of what the book’s about. My youngest is my twin almost 4 year olds and even taking pictures of this for this post had me laughing in my studio.

Amen Brother!

To give a mom a good laugh, go here to purchase - there’s a whole line of these but I think this book is the funniest one I’ve seen.

And speaking of Mother’s Day…if you missed it on the website, check out this cool special we’re offering through May. This is the perfect time of year for family outdoor sessions so definitely check it out!

*And to make this even sweeter, if you book a session for May before the end of April, I’ll include a full resolution digital file from your session!*

That’s a Hot Basket!

Okay, so - if you’re a regular (feel I should be wearing an apron and holding a coffee pot with that statement :)) you know about our Spring Fling Event coming up March 27th.

UPDATE ABOUT: We have four (4) 15 minute session slots still available 12:00, 12:15, 3:15 and 4:15. That’s it! If you’ve got little ones and you’d love pictures of them dressed in adorable spring gear, call to book! It’s FREE! And will be a total blast! LOTS of PRIZES to give out throughout day plus our cool raffle!

As a reminder - you do not need to a session appointment to drop by! Come at any time just to check it out and say hi!

Which, speaking of….so, the raffle is meant to raise money for Loaves and Fishes - I have lofty goals of raising $500 and I need your help! I was afraid the raffle was getting a bit buried in the event so I came up with (hopefully) an eye catching image idea - it’s called “That’s a Hot Basket!” (see picture below). We have 25 posters coming this week - if you have a local business and would be willing to display a poster in your window, please holler at me! In the meantime, here’s the lowdown -

  • tickets are on sale now!  You may purchase at any time from Laura Lynne Photography or Platinum Auto Salon - 7251 Galilee Road, Roseville, Suites 120 and 190.
  • tickets are $5. limit 10 tickets per family.
  • raffle prizes are:

First Prize Raffle: Sacramento Kings Gift Basket with lower level tickets, signed Tyreke Evans jersey, Kings coffee mug, shirt, and much more! PLUS, a 1 hour studio session with me and an 11×14 print.
Second Prize Raffle: Spa gift basket from Bella Rosa Naturals including neck wrap, body scrub, lip balm and drawer scent packs. Yummy!
Third Prize Raffle: Scentsy Warmer with Tangerine Tango scent packs (available from Bella Rose Naturals).

Big thank you to Krush Boutique in The Fountains (we’ll be giving away four (4) $30 gift certificates to Krush Boutique - formally Crush Clothing - throughout the day for our Spring Fling Event!) for providing the hot dress! And big thank you to gorgeous models Jessi, Aaron, Brian and Dan for making an 11am model call on a Saturday morning (Aaron, I know it was painful man - sorry I didn’t have coffee on the burner!) :)

Sassy

So, yesterday I met up with a client turned friend (which is pretty much synonymous for me) and we were chatting about life and work, etc. We got on the topic of my blog and she was saying how when she first read it she thought this girl is a bit sassy (which is ironic since I call her the sassy mom). I’ve never heard anyone describe my writing before and this got me thinking….

Bare with me a moment. So, once upon a time I had a boss who berated me (often) for wearing my heart on my sleeve. I started to believe this was a bad thing and worked hard to be the expressionless mask he so seemed to desire. It became ingrained in me to hold back a bit - to mold what I said and did around the rules he had provided. When I opened my own business, I applied much of what I had learned from him thinking this was the correct business approach. It didn’t feel comfortable. And when I slipped and did wear my heart on my sleeve or talk to a client as a friend, I felt like I had failed. And that didn’t feel comfortable either.

And then, somewhere along the line through writing for my blog and in that defining much about myself and my business, I realized - me and my business are one and the same. I am my art. What you see visually is an extension of my heart, my passion. Me and my camera - we are one - my camera is the professional tool, but the person is me. I cannot run this business with an expressionless mask. I can only run this business as me.

And so I stopped putting up so many boundaries and started writing more from the heart, working more from the heart…which, I’ve discovered actually does belong, to some extent, on my sleeve. I won’t lie - I doubt myself often, like, did I say too much? Was that too personal? Do you think people will know I’m joking? I wish - often - that I didn’t doubt myself so - often. But, as is life, I’m a work in progress and probably will be until I die. I hope, though, that at least by the time I’m 90 (I know, high hopes) I’ll have gotten to where my grandmother did and face the world with a who cares attitude (no joke, this still makes me smile, my 90 year old grandmother would sit there in her little wheelchair with this completely unconcerned look on her face, her puff of unruly white hair,  shrug her shoulders and say who cares. In the end, it was her response to just about everything).

So, back to sassy…sassy by definition means ‘lively, spirited, jaunty’ (I’m going to leave out ‘rude’ and ‘disrespectful’ because that’s never my intention and someone needs to smack me if I ever cross that line). That sounds like a girl who wears her heart on her sleeve. And probably oversteps sometimes and says too much. But if you follow the heart of the words and the artist then you’ll know - its all meant in fun and with goodness.

Okay, the Spring Fling Designer Showcase and Photo Event continues to get sweeter and sweeter. I’m SO excited! P-umped! Our list of prizes continues to grow (hey, can I win a few of those?). Here’s a few of the businesses giving away prizes:

Wacky Tacky, Crush Clothing, Ambience Floral Design, Sutter Homes, Bellia Mia Designs, Purdy Things,  Maggie Smith Change.Love. Surrender CD and more! Check out some samples below!

Shanna of Crush Clothing in The Fountains has given us 4 $30 gift certificates to be given away throughout the day!

The designer herself! Beautiful Carmella of Bellia Mia Designs showing off the adorable spring dress she’s giving away during the day. Picture it with a hot pink hat and shoes. SO cute!

We love Wacky Tacky! WiFi, coffee, a nice area for adults and tons of crazy fun for kids!

2nd prize raffle by Bella Rose Naturals - just think…spa…..ahhhhhhh. I can say because I’m sold on these products that they are DELIGHTFUL! Gift basket includes neck wrap, body scrub, lip balm, and drawer scent packs (probably a nicer name for them but when you smell them, you won’t care, you’ll just want it) (value $70)

Third prize raffle fun - Scentsy Warmer with Tangerine Tango scent packs (available for sale on Bella Rose Naturals website). ($30 value) LOVE THIS! Just take a whiff of the studio when you’re here - we’ll have one going as a teaser…

of course, the whole Sac Kings basket is loaded but if you’re like me, you’ll zero in on these…tickets! Love these - lower level with a value of (just the tickets alone - not counting the rest of the basket) $230.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: We’ve extended the raffle to a first, second and third prize. First prize will be the Sacramento Kings basket and a photo session with me plus an 11×14 print, second prize will be a yummy gift basket from Bella Rose Naturals (pictured above), and third prize is Scentsy Warmer (pictured above)! Lots of good stuff!!

You can also now purchase raffle tickets at Platinum Auto Salon across the way from my studio. If you happen to be in the area, drop by! If I’m not in (if the door is locked, I’m in session otherwise, it’s always open for visitors) check with Charlie across the way. And once again, all raffle sales go to Loaves and Fishes. I have a goal of raising $500 for them so please help us make our goal and do some goodness in the process!

You do NOT need a session appointment to come by the studio for the Spring Fling Designer Showcase and Photo Event! This is an open house event - come anytime to enter the raffle, check out our designer showcases, help yourself to a yummy treat and just say hi! Visitors welcome all day long!

My Academy Award Actress

a story for moms….

You know, as a mom you have these moments you’re really proud of - like moments where your kids are pushing all your buttons and you’re able to stand back and calmly reply with words ferreted out of one of the million parenting books lining dusty bookshelves - you know, the ones you read B4K (that’s- Before Kids). Later, after resolving the issue in a manner Dr. Parent Advice So and So would be proud of, as you lay your angelic babies down to sleep and quietly kiss them good night, you walk away with a lift in your stride and a small smile in place secretly thinking what a great mom I am. That’s called a Brady Mama Moment and in that moment every sweetly spun hollywood family tale seems - possible. Maybe there is such a thing as happily ever afters, you think…

I love those moments. I think there should be little gold Oscarish statues for moms when they have these moments so that when you have the opposite of these moments, you can gaze wistfully at your shelf of achievements and reminisce about the good ol days…or moments…or times…

There were no gold Oscarish figurines in my world today. No gracefully laid out lines or emotion stealing moments that would have audiences swooning and me preparing my Academy Award acceptance speech (I do love this fantasy. In it, Angelina Jolie and I chuckle over the nuances of motherhood in our red satin dresses and high heels and perfectly applied makeup while Brad Pitt and - ohhhh - hum - Leonardo stand by exchanging jokes and doing whatever it is guys do). Noooooo. The emotion stealing moments most definitely hands down go to my 5 year old  daughter who I do believe has every single one of my buttons color coded in alphabetical order in a secret compartment in her room. Actually, she’s so smart - she’s probably figured out a way to write code on her arm with her iridescent markers for quick reference. And I think she may have made copies for my twins because I’m sensing there is some serious collaboration going on behind closed doors (that’s button #55 - leave the doors open! Mom must hear everything. There can be no spies in this camp).

Today, she pulled the big Kahuna and pushed button #1 which is: tantrums in public places. Familiar with this one? Well, I’ll be honest - this one makes me quake in my boots.  My answer usually goes like this - run-to-the-car-as-fast-as-you-can-and-quickly-shut-the-doors-before-the-drama-fully-kicks-in. Followed by - apply-dark-glasses-and-steal-quickly-out-of-the-parking-lot-before-anyone-sees-LAURA LYNNE PHOTOGRAPHY-sprawled-on-the-back-of-my-very-identifying-car.  Uh yeah, that piece doesn’t always work out so well. And you know how TNT says they know drama? No, nooo. I beg to differ. Their drama is child’s play (no pun intended). My daughter knows drama. I fully intend for her to support me someday with her acting skills. In fact, I’ve already spoken with JC (James Cameron - yeah, we’re close like that) and he’s down. He saw the demo tape from her 3rd birthday (I have no idea, I’m just making this up - I know that’s hard to believe). He’s keeping his eyes open for projects that would be a good fit. I expect a call any day now.

So, that was pretty much me and my academy award actress (and my poor twins who are at as much of a loss as I am in these situations) today at 5:30 as we exited the gym. Which is why I usually avoid this time for the gym - I think this time of the day is also referred to as Meltdown Milley. Well, if it wasn’t before, it is now. I’m not sure who Milley is but I’m pretty sure she’s supporting her mom with her acting skills too.

So, what did I learn today? When kids are in tow, stick to the am and afternoon workouts. And finish the day with a glass of wine. It’s true what they say - it’s good for your health. :)

my academy award actress in a happier role (pre-gym at Wacky Tacky - which, by the way, is the greatest play house in Roseville and we’re giving away free entrance gift certificates at our Spring Fling Event on the 27th which is just one more reason to stop by!)

man, I love this little girl. do you think she’ll ever really know how much?
