Come Away With Me…

Title confession: I had this song stuck in my head only the lyrics in my head went ‘come play with me…’. Right. So, I wrote myself a whole little blog post around this song with the lyrics come play with me by Norah Jones because that’s the kind of genius I am. Then I looked up the song to add it to the playlist (below) and whatyaknow…what’s the opposite of genius? Wait! Don’t answer that! Not unless you have a Mango Smirnoff in your hand and a goodwill smile on your face. Or you could humor me and say you’ve done the exact same thing and you too went around your house singing come play with me by Norah Jones loud enough for your neighbors to hear (that didn’t really happen. no honest. really. that wasn’t me).

So, revised blog post…come away with me could work too being that this was an engagement shoot for their wedding which will be happening Santa Cruz in a few weeks (the last time I was there was to visit my college boyfriend back in…oh well, who really needs to name years, huh? awhile ago. needless to say, I’m pretty excited to be there again but even more excited to photograph their wedding which sounds absolutely, perfectly, totally divine, unique and beautiful).

Come away with me, come play with me…however you want to think of it - either works. As it was, we had a scant 20 minutes or so to do this session but they play so well and so cute together it was easy peasy.

ps - couldn’t find the song for the playlist  :(

All You Need is Love…

(make sure your sound is on)

Cindy and Robert = Love. Pure and simple. Last month I, along with my Pixel Chick girl Alli Gaulin of Alli Gaulin Photography (who is also responsible for my new profile pic - thank you Alli!:), photographed their wedding in Georgia. It was a love filled affair and the next week I found myself just wanting to relive it moment by moment.  Now, please excuse this rambling post but as I was editing tonight I was thinking about these two and what makes them so special to me. I started writing down thoughts as I edited - I guess this might be considered a little tribute to them and their friendship and my thankfulness for being a part of their lives…

I love Cindy for her open and generous heart. I love her for her ability to mesh with those around her both emotionally and physically. To be Cindy’s friend is to sit thigh to thigh editing into the late hours peering over at each others laptops, glancing up to welcome the dozens of kids that treat her house like a second home and plop down beside her to say hello and catch up before heading down to the basement. To be her friend is to live with open doors, sharing hearts and lives, tears and joys.  To be her friend is to love and give 100% - to know that words will never be left unspoken, that friendship endures no matter what and that forgiveness is always available.  It’s a gift to be a friend at her side receiving of her love and friendship, time and ear and talent and guidance.

I loved Robert first because he made Cindy smile and laugh and love with a gleeful happiness that filled her little corner of Cartersville with sunshine. Then I loved Robert because I met him and he is genuine and funny as all heck and a tower of strength and support that makes even friends at Cindy’s side feel loved and cared for under his protection. He is truly, said very simply, a good man through and through.  I love Robert now for all those things and for a yellow Eskimo Joe’s Stillwater hat he gave me after I wore and fell in love with it on a jeep ride home from dinner (I have a thing for hats that fit just so) and for having a truckload of Georgia boys ready to stand at my defense if someone is mean to me….as happened once upon a time. :)

Robert and Cindy I love you guys bunches and bunches!

Too many favs to name but here are (more) than few…

I absolutely LOVE all the colorful, vibrant details Cindy did…

three and six plus little girl Sky makes ten…talk about a house filled with love, laughter and noise! I love these guys! they all know how to set it loose and have fun!

Robert getting ‘the’ talk..

Me and some of my Pixel Chicks! From left: Alli Gaulin, me, Cindy Harter and Sherry Boles. Oh yeah, and in case you can’t tell, this is called MELTING Georgia style! GOODNESS! I felt like I was swimming all day!

And by the way, the show The Office is hysterical. How is that I’m just now catching on to this show? :)

Jarrod & Darcie Got Married!

And I got to capture it! A little inside info - Darcie is probably one of my oldest friends. I once made her and our friend Heather dress up Guess style and spend a day with me modeling like rockstars. I think that was the beginning of her being one of my favorite muses. When I worked as a photo assistant at a studio in Tahoe, and being that she lived there at the time, I used to crash at her place and to take every opportunity to dress her up and put her in front of the camera. It’s an era that hasn’t ended but has been cluttered with adult responsiblities and children and busy life and time less spent.

So, when she told me she was getting married and wanted me to photograph it (actually, she was really sweet - she asked me but then told me that if I wanted to be a guest instead, that was okay too) I was stoked. Yeah, I just said stoked. Pulling from the 90s. My era. What can I say. Ol school!

Anyway, I love Darcie and though Jarrod and I barely got to say hello amongst pictures and family and a gorgeous day of laughter and love, I already know I love him too. Because Darcie does. Because they are adorable together. Because he and Darcie mesh harmoniously - his strong, yet subtle presence to her fire and wit. Total beautiful mesh.

Here are some favs pulled for a stunning day that felt atop the world…

(thanks for picking me Darcie and Jarrod! :))

Lacey & Ben Wedding, Napa, September 26, 2009

When Lacey’s mom Robin called me a year and half ago to ask if I’d photograph her daughter’s wedding, I said yes. I wasn’t officially offering weddings and I had no prices or information but, having met Robin and her family when they did the exceptional favor of driving their purple classic car from Napa in the early am hours for a Sacramento Kings’ Crew shoot, I knew it’d be amazing. While shivering in our cars, glued to the heaters at 9am on Saturday morning awaiting the King’s Crew in a back alley in downtown Sacramento, I got to know the Price family a bit. In that brief time, I learned they are a family closely tied and brimming with humor. So when she called and asked me to photograph the wedding, I was estatic. I kind of felt like the girl in the class who got a star and wasn’t sure why, but was seriously happy about it. I hope I played it much cooler than I felt! :)

And then, last spring, I met Lacey and Ben in Sonoma for their engagement session and fell a little bit in love - with them, their love for each other and that beautiful humor that seems to overflow in this family. It was no surprise then that their wedding would be just as beautiful. And emotional. And brimming with love and humor.

Thank you Lacey and Ben (and Robin and John - hey John, it’s so nice to meet you! LOL does “i had a lot on my mind that day?” pass for an excuse…I promise I wasn’t dipping into the cocktails while on duty! :)) for allowing me the privilege of photographing your wedding day!

What follows are my personal favs from the day…

one of the flower girls was sitting by the window and I couldn’t resist this expression!

John was about to give Lacey away and I captured this using the full measure of window light streaming in above and beside her…something about this just feels wispy and beautiful to me…

after the ceremony I saw Lacey put her bouquet in her boots which she was taking to the reception to wear and I knew I had to snag that picture so I had her recreate it at the reception…

workin that attitide with some serious saucy! :)

love you guys! congratulations!
